SAAUC’s production of Henrik Ibsen’s drama A Doll’s House directed by SAAUC member Jagath Bandara will be staged on 2nd and 3rd September at 6.30 PM at Lumbini Theatre, Colombo.

Tickets are priced Rs. 100.00 and Rs. 250.00, and are available at the theatre from 2nd September 2010 onward or from SAAUC. SAAUC members interested in attending the Opening Show on 2nd of September 2010, please contact the Secretary, SAAUC.

Annual General Meeting, 24 July 2010

The second AGM of SAAUC was held on 24 July 2010 from 10.30 AM to 03.30 PM. During the AGM, in addition to presenting the activity and financial reports for the previous year, office bearers for the present year were also elected. A number of resolutions were also passed which included a revision of membership fees, criteria for admission of honorary members to SAAUC and the introduction of selected conditions that would govern the duties of special committees.

After the election of office bearers and the passing of new resolutions and amendments, some discussion took place on the prospects of expanding the support base of SAAUC. Members pointed out the need to ensure representation of different graduating groups in SAAUC.

Tea was served during the meeting and discussions, and lunch was provided at the conclusion of the proceedings.

A colorful cultural program was presented after the meeting and before lunch by the fourth year sociology Special Degree students, first year students offering sociology as a subject and their friends. In addition to providing some entertainment for alumni visiting the Department after a long time, the program was also an effort by SAAUC and the Department of Sociology to get students involved in and familiar with the activities of SAAUC and to offer them a forum for their skills and talents beyond academic matters.
